Joanne Vernon is Head of Family Law at Ansons. She qualified in 2000 and has worked in family law ever since, advising individuals going through divorce or separation, cohabitation disputes and financial matters, with particular expertise in private law children cases. She sees clients at the Lichfield, Cannock and Sutton Coldfield offices.
Joanne has appeared on Legally Sound, the Ansons podcast.
Every episode, every landmark case, in one place.
Joanne advises on the full spectrum of family law matters, with particular expertise in private children disputes, including relocation cases, contact arrangements and matters involving third-party experts. She handles divorce, dissolution and separation, financial remedy proceedings, consent orders and pensions on divorce.
In her own words: “I am empathetic, understanding and approachable. I understand the gravity of the situation a client is facing, and ensure my advice is clear, without legal jargon and bespoke.” Most of the people she acts for are parents.
She is an experienced advocate, able to represent clients at all levels of court, and works closely with barristers when the complexity of a case demands it.
Joanne also advises on cohabitation disputes and separation agreements, as well as pre and post nuptial agreements for those planning ahead.
A client planning to remarry wanted to protect property and assets from his first marriage for the benefit of his children. Joanne drafted the prenuptial agreement and advised him through to signing.
A mother wanted to move with her children and the father refused to consent. Joanne advised her on what the court looks for, applied to the court for permission to relocate and represented her through to the final hearing.
Acting for a wife who had been the main carer for the children and financially dependent on her husband, a business owner who wanted a clean break. Joanne advised on the division of capital and spousal maintenance, including instructing experts on the business.
What clients say.
The legal system has enabled us this luxury, a legal system Joanne has calmly and expertly navigated on our behalf. Ms Vernon has been a rope on shifting sand, vastly knowledgeable, empathetic and consistently child centric. I couldn’t and wouldn’t recommend anyone as highly.
