The sixth annual Rugeley 7s took place on 30th May 2015 and was another roaring success. In total, 12 teams took part in this year’s tournament at Rugeley Rugby Club, which was sponsored for the fourth year in a row by Ansons Solicitors.
The local area was well represented, with teams from Cannock Chase, Burntwood, Stafford, and Barton-under-Needwood all taking part. Newcastle and Eccleshall ensured the north of Staffordshire was also well represented.
Adam Penn, head of personal injury at Ansons Solicitors, who was there to supervise the action, said “We are delighted to be able to associated with such a fantastic tournament. Ansons has a long association with Rugeley Rugby Club and it is wonderful to see how the competition has grown over the years. We feel it is important for local businesses to support sports clubs in their communities.”
The tournament got off to a storming start and did not disappoint up to the final match. The eventual winners were Newcastle Rugby Club who, having lost in the first match of the day to Eccleshall, triumphed in the final to the same opposition, avenging their defeat. Burntwood Colts, making their first appearance in the tournament, proved feisty opposition and secured victory in the Shield Competition. The hosts did not go unrewarded with the Rugeley A team winning the Plate.
The day was well attended by players and supporters alike – even Pitman Pete, the mascot from local football club Hednesford Town, made an appearance to entertain the children.
Carl Johnson, the Rugeley Rugby Club chairman expressed his delight with the continued success of the tournament, “It is a great testament to our wonderful volunteers that we are able to put on such a great event year after year. I want to thank Ansons Solicitors again for their continued support and assistance. We hope the participants enjoyed themselves and will be back again in 2016.”
