Let’s get moving- Housing Secretary announces plan to re-start the housing market

13th May 2020

Since lockdown restrictions were implemented by the government in March, the majority of those moving house have been unable to progress with their plans.

With effect from today however (Wednesday 13th May) new government guidelines on working practices means that the housing market is now officially open for business again.  Estate agents can open, and buyers and renters will now be allowed to move home and view properties, as long as everyone, at every step, observes the physical distancing guidance.

These new rules are a significant shift for a stagnant UK housing market, with the government-imposed lockdown putting on hold the plans to move of an estimated half a million people.

Although the market slowed, here at Ansons the Conveyancing team have continued to work remotely throughout the lockdown.  We are ready for the surge in demand that is likely to follow the government’s announcement.

It remains incredibly important, now more than ever, that renters, buyers and sellers receive clear and considered advice on the legal aspects of their house move.  Our experienced team is well-versed in all the necessary measures to keep you safe during the process of signing and witnessing documents, and ensuring documentation is drafted to protect your interests in these uncertain times.
