Increase in court fees

5th March 2015

Further to our previous article in February this year, the introduction of the Civil Proceedings and Family Proceedings Fees (Amendment) Order 2015 will see court fees increased for money claims. The increased fees will be introduced as of Monday 9 March 2015 and will see an increase of over 400 per cent in certain cases.

The fee for claims with a value between £1 and £9,999 will remain unchanged. However, the most significant changes have been made to the fees for claims with a value over £10,000.

Claims with a value of £10,000 to £199,999 will attract a court fee of 5 per cent of the total claim, and the court fee for claims with a value over £200,000 will be fixed at £10,000. A maximum fee to issue proceedings has been set at £10,000 and a discount of 10 per cent will apply where the claim is issued electronically. A claim for an unspecified amount will attract the maximum fee.

By way of example, if a claim has a value of £50,000 the court issue fee will be £2,500. This is over four times the current fee of £610.
