Future trends identified in the UK housing market

19th June 2014

It is no secret that the UK housing market has seen significant changes over the past 50 years, but statistics published earlier this year by Strutt & Parker highlight just how aware we need to be of underlying trends.

According to Julie Tomasik, head of conveyancing at Ansons Solicitors, “staying ahead of these trends is key for anyone involved in helping people to move house”. The residential conveyancing team at Ansons Solicitors takes great care to fully understand the difficulties and complications that families face in the housing market, as well as the challenges to come.

Here is what their survey found:

  • living alone is becoming more common, which means housing needs will change;
  • Gen Y (those born between 1978 and 1995) will be willing to live in private rental for longer, if not for their lifetime;
  • access to technology is altering future housing types and location decisions;
  • traditional family structures are no longer the norm, which means a resurgence in alternative housing needs; and
  • baby boomers will ‘right-size’ to raise capital for pensions and their children’s housing needs.

With excellent relationships with all the local estate agents and authorities across Staffordshire, our conveyancing lawyers can help you ride these waves of changes in the housing market. Our specialist residential conveyancing solicitors can also assist you as a first time buyer, seller, when buying to let, remortgaging or if you need to transfer equity after a divorce or separation.
