First-time buyer market booming

20th November 2014

First-time buyers are defying a slowdown in the housing market. According to figures, September saw 25,800 first-time buyer completions compared to 23,200 during the same time last year.

The 11 per cent increase is partly down to the popularity of Help to Buy. Clearly the scheme is proving a great success and is giving borrowers the financial support they need to save for a deposit. The figures also show that the size of deposit asked by lenders fell by eight per cent, which has no doubt boosted first-time buyer’s ability to buy.

This news will put renewed confidence in the Help to Buy scheme and the housing market in general, as first-time buyers lead the way in its recovery. With many people also seeing their finances starting to recover after the financial crisis, the future looks bright for first-time buyers.
