Staff from Ansons Solicitors in Cannock and Lichfield celebrated the summer solstice on 22nd June by attempting to break the Guinness world record for the largest gathering of fairies in one place.
Ansons budding fairies each donned a tutu and fairy wings to transform themselves into a fairy for the night. A grand total of 871 fairies flew into the streets of Lichfield for the fundraising event in aid of St Giles Hospice, beating the previous UK record of 786 fairies set in Stamford in 2012.
At 10pm the fairies then embarked on a nine mile fundraising walk through the streets of Lichfield in aid of the hospice. The annual Solstice Walk is held on the Saturday closest to the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and is the charities biggest fundraising event. Since it was established in 2007 the Solstice Walk has raised over £500,000 towards the dedicated work of the hospice.
Ansons have participated in this walk for many years and continues to support their great work.
Simon James, senior partner at Ansons Solicitors, is the chairman of the board of trustees for St Giles Hospice, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The hospice is based in Whittington, near Lichfield and offers specialist care in a variety of settings for patients with cancer and other serious illnesses as well as providing support for their families and helpers in the South Staffordshire area.
