The official launch of Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes took place on 22 January at RAF Cosford Air Museum. Ansons residential conveyancing expert, Julie Tomasik from Lichfield, attended the launch. Julie has a close personal link with the charity as her sister has applied to be volunteer controller and her good friend Andy Wilson is one of the local riders.
Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes (SSBB) is an emergency volunteer service which aims to provide urgent and emergency transportation of life saving medical supplies to the NHS Foundations across our region. Through the dedication of their volunteer staff, they soon hope to be operational every night of the year.
The newly formed Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes already have over 100 volunteer riders and supporters, ready to start delivering in support of the NHS this month with its first two specially equipped motorcycles.
SSBB Chairman Chris Powdrill said: “The emergency blood bikes service is a charity run entirely by volunteers, providing a vital service delivering blood and medical items which can save the NHS up to £300 per urgent delivery compared to the cost of using commercial couriers. SSBB is fortunate to have raised sufficient funds to purchase its first two blood bikes but will need six bikes to provide cover for the whole of Shropshire and Staffordshire.”
The official launch event was hosted by BB Jim Hawkins with four- times world superbikes champion Carl Fogarty and ex-British champion James Whitham as the special guests.
