Ministers have outlined preferred plans for the second phase of the high-speed rail line HS2 route, from Crewe to Manchester and the West Midlands to Leeds.
This announcement again confirms the Government’s intention to push ahead with the controversial project despite continued objections.
The HS2 rail line which cuts through Staffordshire, affecting thousands of residents, businesses and agricultural properties, will split into a Y shape after Birmingham. The western leg will lead to Wigan and Manchester, with a spur to connect to Manchester Airport.
The eastern leg will lead towards Sheffield and Leeds. The publication of the new routes has provided much needed clarity on the project however those parts of Phase 2b where there have been significant changes to the route are still subject to consultation.
To assist those living near to the proposed Phase 2b route the Government has extended its discretionary Need to Sell Scheme to the whole of the Phase 2b route immediately.
Ansons Solicitors in Staffordshire have been advising home owners and businesses on the effects of HS2 on their property and the various discretionary schemes. As experts on planning law and compulsory purchase, they advise home owners and businesses on their options and whether they are likely to be eligible for compensation.
